HARDWOOD FLOORING

All types of wood flooring share a common trait: they are lifelong, durable, environmentally friendly, and beautiful. Installing wood flooring not only enhances the beauty of your home but also increases its value when you decide to sell.

Hardwood Types

Our customers often inquire about the differences between solid hardwood and engineered wood floors. Engineered wood flooring is constructed with a plywood core topped with a layer of hardwood. It's versatile, durable, and suitable for areas prone to moisture. Both solid and engineered wood floors can be refinished.

Care & Maintenance

Maintenance includes basic tasks like mopping and vacuuming, as well as protecting floors from moisture and heavy wear. Hardwood floors also contribute to a healthier indoor environment by resisting dust mites and molds, particularly beneficial for allergy sufferers.

INSTALLATION OPTIONS

Nail Down/Staple Installation

Wood floorings are installed by nailing it down or stapled into the sub-flooring (usually either plywood or plank wood). The hardwood floor is laid down randomly to give the floor a more natural look. This kind of installation is usually common for solid hardwood floors and a pneumatic nailer is typically used. When nail down installations are done correctly and professionally, the nails would not be visible.

Glue Down Installation

In this method, we glue down engineered wood strips or parquet directly to the subfloor. In these cases the subfloor is usually concrete, so we pay extra attention to moisture. With glue-down installations, it is important to consider any kind of allergies and sensitivities to smell. We use acrylic-based glue which is milder than some of the other options. Glue-down installations can be walked on the next day and furniture can also be moved in.

Floating Installation

In this method, the tongue and groove of each plank are glued together, allowing the floor to float over a foam cushioned padding. If the flooring has a locking system, the pieces can be locked together without glue. This installation option is suitable for both laminate and engineered wood floors, and regardless of the type of flooring, it is pre-finished. However, not all engineered surfaces can be floated. Floating installation can also be placed over sub-flooring of questionable quality, unlike the other two methods.

Floating floors are a great option if you have multiple layers of flooring and do not want to remove them all. Additionally, the wear layer is important to consider, as the thicker the layer, the more times it can be refinished.
